Your guide to romanticizing the winter season after the holidays

Sydney Orrison

Christmas has come and gone, and for many of us - myself included - January can feel a little blah without the lingering magic of the holiday spirit, especially if you live somewhere with gloomy skies and snowy weather now through late March (we love you, Ohio).

To brighten up your spirits, regardless of your weather situation, I've compiled a few of the best ways to romanticize the winter season after the holidays!

1) Utilize cozy mood lighting throughout your space

Brightening spirits begins with brightening your space! I find it very important to combat the harsh blue light from outside with cozy warm lighting, especially my incandescent string lights that I hang throughout my office. Other great examples include lamps and candle warmers.

This is also your friendly reminder that string lights are not only a Christmas decoration!

2) Reconnect with your creative side

Winter often means increased time indoors, which is the perfect opportunity for that craft you've been meaning to try! Scrapbooking, junk journaling, and art are great activities to do in your newly lighted cozy space.

3) Become an at-home barista

Did your local coffee shop stop serving peppermint mochas and sugar cookie lattes after the holidays ended? This is your chance to learn to make them at home (which is especially helpful if you're on a budget)!

I use Monin syrups for all of my recipes! More to come on these in the future.

4) Intentionally surround yourself with positive reminders

Of course I'm biased here, but doing this has truly improved my outlook so much and I feel the need to share! Whether it's on a sticker, your hoodie, or even a print on your wall, encouraging words can go a long way. Our words have power, and we should use them for good!

5) Never underestimate the power of a good candle

Just because the holidays are over does not mean it's time to pack up your Christmas candles! Enjoy your pine tree and cookie scents all winter long. They are great mood-boosters and mood lighting, which you know I love.

The moral of the story is that festive ≠ Christmas and you should be able to enjoy your space and celebrate the little joys in life no matter what season it is! Find the things that make the winter a little brighter for you and hold on to them! (Spring will be here before we know it!!)

I'm always in the market for extra serotonin, so please share your favorite winter activities with me too!
